Prelude Music-
The wedding prelude is the time before the bride arrives and the guests and mothers of the intended couple are seated. It's important during most weddings to play appropriate music at this time. Traditional prelude music may include classical composers such as Bach, Haydn, Tchaikovsky and Mozart, with Vivaldi's, "The Four Seasons-Spring" being one of the most popular choices.
Many choose contemporary music for this portion of the ceremony-- songs which may hold special meaning for the bride and groom--while others opt for the more traditional classical selections without lyrics. These tend to be less obtrusive and more traditional. Other weddings have included a combination of the two styles, which is perfectly acceptable as the prelude portion of the wedding is relaxed and informal. This portion of the wedding ceremony typically lasts 30-45 minutes.
The type of prelude music chosen should fit with the musical choices made for the rest of the wedding ceremony. If, for example, the plan is for traditional, classical music selections for the wedding, you may wish to select the same musical style for the prelude. Hopefully you'll find help on this website in making your selections for this extremely important portion of the wedding.
Bagpipe music has also gained some popularity in past years, but finding this type of music can be difficult should you want it performed live. Keep in mind that whatever type of music that will be played during the processional should be relatively short in length as this portion of the wedding ceremony typically lasts two to three minutes--and should fit in with the overall wedding theme. As you can tell, there's no list for the prelude music. Reason is this, as you look at the lists, there are same songs on all three lists. You can pick anything for your prelude songs. The lists below are just help lists of what client(s) have picked throughout.
Processional Music-
And so it's finally time for the most beautiful part of the wedding ceremony, the processional. This is that dramatic moment when, as the audience is seated, the wedding party enters. For several minutes, emotional music heralds the arrival of the groomsmen, best man, maid of honor, bridesmaids, and flower girl.
Finally, with dramatic fanfare, the music shifts, the audience stands, and in marches the bride herself. Typically, traditional, instrumental music is played during this portion of the ceremony, with "Here Comes The Bride" (Wagner's Lohengren, The Bridal Chorus) remaining the most popular choice in traditional Western weddings.
Of course, one of the advantages to making this music choice is that it's familiar to everybody; everybody will know it's time to stand. In recent years, instrumental versions of "Conde Te Partiro" have become very popular as well.
Once again, you can pick anything for this. Usually, there is one or two processional songs before the bridal chorus (Here comes the bride) before the bride comes down the aisle. The Bride can choose anything for her entrance as well. Most of all it is the Bride and Groom's Special Day.
Music for Lighting of Unity Candle or Combination of Sand-
Several rituals punctuate formal weddings--with the most popular being the Unity Candle. This is a ritual that is rich in meaning--and appropriately-poignant music should accompany it. Since there are generally no words spoken during this event, it is appropriate to use either instrumental music or a selection with spoken words.
The music that's selected should compliment the ceremony; it must never be distracting and it must never take people's attention away from the ceremony itself. Because of this, it's best to choose music which is played at a lower volume level. And if it's a vocal piece, the words must of course be appropriate for the Unity Candle ritual. Some people choose to have a soloist singing the words for the Unity Candle song.
While this is not wrong in and of itself, keep in mind that this will take at least some attention away from the bride and groom and place it on the singer. So you need to decide ahead of time if this is okay. There are lots of good selections to use for the Unity Candle. Many can be found throughout this website, so feel free to explore. The Combination of Sand is also a choice to do between Bride and Groom uniting sand. You can pick any song when it comes to the Unity Candle and Combination of Sand.
Recessional Music-
So the vows are made, the rings are on both fingers, and the Ceremony is close to the end. The stressful part is done. Now for the Recessional. Recessional is a part of the Ceremony where the Bride and Groom along with all Wedding Party walks out to music. This part is usually fun because all of the important stuff is done. You can pick any song, to your heart's desire for you to walk out to. Usually after this song, they have dismissal music.
Dismissal Music-
This is the last part of the where the guests leave after the Wedding Party to meet up with the Wedding Party and congratulate them in a form of a line. The Bride and Groom can pick a couple of songs to play while this is going on even though everyone is exiting. You can pick anything for that as well for your songs.
